WHAT IS CHARLOTTESVILLE BLUES FC?
Charlottesville Blues FC is the newest franchise to the United Soccer League (USL) in Charlottesville, Virginia. We are proud to field a men’s team in USL League Two and a women’s team in USL W League, representing the pinnacle of the pathway to professional soccer in North America. Our home matches are held from May through July at Charlottesville High School stadium, showcasing talent from local and out-of-area players joining our ranks for the season. These athletes, dedicated to their sport, often require local accommodations to support their commitment to our club and their development in the game.
WHO ARE THE PLAYERS?
Our players needing host families include young men and women, typically aged between 18-23. Many are collegiate soccer players from across the United States, seeking to utilize their summer break to advance their skills and pursue opportunities in professional soccer by playing for Charlottesville Blues FC. These players are on the cusp of professional careers, having dedicated significant effort to reach this level of competition.
WHEN WILL THEY ARRIVE AND LEAVE?
The Charlottesville Blues FC season kicks off in early May and concludes by the end of July, with the national championship slated for the first Saturday in August. Players generally arrive between May 1 and May 15, with a rigorous schedule that includes around 18 games and 20 practice sessions over 11 weeks. Departures may vary due to injuries, academic commitments, professional signings, or other personal reasons.
WHAT DO I NEED TO PROVIDE THE PLAYERS?
Host families are asked to offer:
- A private, air-conditioned bedroom (window units are acceptable)
- Essentials such as towels, linens, and laundry access (players manage their own laundry)
- A shared or private bathroom
- Kitchen and refrigerator access for food storage and cooking
- A welcoming, family-like environment, including participation in family activities
- Privacy respect, clear house rules, and an open-hearted home
WHAT DON’T I NEED TO PROVIDE?
- Transportation: Players coordinate their own, through carpools or personal vehicles.
- Meals: Hosts are not required to provide additional food, though kitchen access for self-catering is expected.
- Financial support: Direct monetary aid is inappropriate and could affect players’ amateur status.
- Housekeeping: Players are responsible for maintaining their living spaces and respecting the host’s property.
